The name ADENIA ACULEATA was given to the representative of the Passifloraceae family by Heinrich Gustav Adolf Engler in 1891. It occurs in Somalia, eastern Ethiopia and northeastern Kenya. Aculeata is accustomed to well-drained soil with minimal water. To grow, it needs to be oriented in a moderate to strong sunny location. The plant produces a caudex up to 30 centimetres in diameter, while its height ranges from two to twenty metres. The caudex produces lianas and the flowers are cream-coloured.
