The name FOCKEA CAPENSIS was given by the representative of the family Asclepiadaceae – Stephan Friedrich Ladislaus Endlicher in 1839. According to the latest taxonomic system APG IV 2016, Asclepiadaceae is now part of Apocynaceae. This caudiciform plant grows in SW South Africa, in well-drained soil with moderate watering and strong sunshine. Caudex reaches up to 60 cm in diameter and the lians can grow up to five metres tall. Fockea capensis does not shed all its leaves despite the summer season if has enough water. The flowers of Fockea capensis are white.
