The name KEDROSTIS GIJEF was given by the representative of the family Cucurbitaceae – Charles Jeffrey in 1962. This caudiciform plant is found in Ethiopia, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania and in the United Republic of Yemen. K. gijef growing in a well drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The vines grow to five metres or more in length and the caudex up to ten centimetres in diameter. The flowers are yellow with green veins. In Europe it is often sold as Kedrostis africana. Which is of course wrong! K. gijef has much more cut leaves and also has outgrowths on the caudex. Caudex is more oval and more erect, while gijef grows much smaller.
